We love downtown Albany and we especially love everything the Downtown Albany Business Improvement District does for the area. Curious to find out a little bit more about them?  You are in luck!  See below for the scoop on them. The BID was started to “maintain the character and viability of downtown Albany and to improve the quality of life and overall image for all those who live, work and visit the Capital City of Albany.”  Every downtown business, which moves into an area in the downtown BID district (central business district), will automatically become a member of the BID. Their main objectives are: Promoting education about Downtown history and historic landmarks within a framework of revitalization. Undertaking surveys to determine the adequacy of common facilities and combat community deterioration by organizing beautification projects and improving public spaces whereby lessening the burden of local government. Coordinating small scale special events in order to educate the public about opportunities available in the downtown area, disseminating land use plans, encouraging greater civic responsibility with an aim of encouraging persons or small businesses to remain within the district.The BID is very proud of these Business Development, Operations & Quality of Life, and Marketing & Communications initiatives. The BID supports downtown Albanybusinesses through a Hospitality Committee, Merchants Association, as well as events such as Sculpture in the Streets, Farmers Market, 1st Friday Albany, and Symphony of Lights.  They also have Clean Team Ambassadors, a Hanging Baskets and Flower Program as well as a partnership with the Albany Police Department with their own dedicated beat officer.
