Do you have what you need to make it through the cold months of winter? Every year we want to show how much we care for neighbors by helping a local charity. This year we are collection nonperishable food for The Food Pantries for the Capital District. This organization supports so many hungry people and we are proud to be working them this year.
The Food Pantries for the Capital District is made up of more than 60 food pantries to better serve our area. They help Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, and Schenectady counties. By helping food pantries they are one step closer, one meal closer, to ending hunger in the Capital District. A world where no one is in need of food is the ultimate mission. Especially during the holidays it is hard to provide such large meals to celebrate for so many. That is why every donation is so important. This coalition all started in 1979 by the Urban Ministries Fellowship. This was a group of churches in the Capital area that saw a need for an organization that fed the hungry. They started with 10 members and have grown exponentially. The very first food drive served over 15,000 people and was run by 16 pantries. Since then, they deliver, fund, and collect for their members, which makes a strong network for each pantry to rely on.With our help they can continue to serve 2.7 million meals every year. So, while you are out shopping for the Christmas dinner or New Year’s celebration, add a few extra nonperishables to the cart.We are so thankful for all our customers who are storing with us. Thank you to everyone who gave a little extra this season.
